Greetings from the Retrocommmissioning Services & Incentives Program! The Program's financial incentives and technical services are still available to help Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) commercial customers save energy and money through retrocommissioning (RCx).

RCx can help building owners and managers improve the performance of their building's systems, achieve energy savings, and improve occupant comfort.  Through low-cost, quick-payback operational improvements, an RCx project can reduce total building energy costs by 5-20%. Visit www.RCx-Program.com to learn more about the Program's incentives and process.
Program Update

In its first months, the Program has received applications for buildings totaling over 7.4 million square feet of building space! The first set of projects to pass screening have potential to save a combined 5 million kilowatt hours of energy, or nearly 20% of the total program goal.

The Program continues to accept applications from PG&E commercial customers that have more than 100,000 square feet of conditioned space. To find out if your building qualifies for the Program, contact a program representative today! Our Field Energy Analysts, Kate Merrill and Greg Murphy, are available to help answer your questions and assist you in getting started.

Project Spotlight: W Hotel

W Hotel San FranciscoThe W Hotel, a 300,000 square foot, 410 room Starwood Hotel and Resorts property located in downtown San Francisco, joined the Program in early May, seeking to further Starwood Hotel and Resorts' mission to become a leader in sustainable hospitality.

The customized, in-depth RCx investigation of the W Hotel is currently underway, and is being conducted by Architectural Energy Corporation (AEC). Investigation efforts are focusing on finding energy savings with the building's chillers, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, central air handlers, and lighting and HVAC control systems. Implementation of selected energy-saving measures is expected to commence later in the year.

According to Terry Haney, General Manager of the W Hotel, "The RCx Program presented us with an appealing package that included high caliber engineering services and a generous investigation incentive that will cover the full cost of the RCx study.  The application and screening process was swift and the Program team has done a great job so far of working with our staff.  We are confident that we'll soon be seeing significant energy savings as a result of this project."

Brick office buildingThis summer, the Retrocommissioning Services & Incentives Program is hosting two free half-day RCx workshops for building and facility managers, building engineers, operations and maintenance staff, and project managers:

  • July 31 at the Pacific Energy Center in San Francisco
  • August 1 at the San Jose City Hall in San Jose

The workshop will highlight the typical benefits and costs and provide real-world examples of retrocommissioning projects, straight from experienced project engineers. For more information and to register, please visit our website.
